This Must Be The Place
The podcast that gives you more Twin Cities history and neighborhood trivia than any reasonable person ever asked for.
Welcome to This Must Be The Place, the show where two dudes dig into real Minnesota history, legendary neighborhoods, forgotten stories, and all the oddly specific things that make the Twin Cities the greatest place on earth (and yes, we are prepared to argue about it).
It’s part history lesson, part neighborhood tour, part “I read five books so you don’t have to,” and part “accidentally funny because we’re just built like this.”
Expect deep dives, questionable analogies, unnecessary enthusiasm for local streets, and more facts about Minneapolis / Saint Paul than you’ll ever need in your daily life. But hey, now you’ll be the most interesting person at any brewery within a 10-mile radius.
Smart-ish.
Funny-ish.
Very Minnesota.

Is the Twin Cities housing market crashing? Short answer: NO. Don’t buy into the hype from national headlines. Florida and Texas may be skewing the data, but what’s happening here in the Twin Cities is a completely different story.
We break down why our market is still strong—covering everything from our diverse economy, top-rated schools, and unbeatable quality of life, to the persistent lack of housing inventory. Spoiler: it’s definitely not a buyer’s market, and nowhere close to collapsing.
Plus, we take a ride down the iconic Midtown Greenway—one of the nation’s premier bike trails. From Bde Maka Ska to the Mississippi, we explore the history, charm, and current state of this world-class pathway that makes other cities jealous.
And of course… BooMTiMeS and plenty more along the way.

This week we figuratively hit the road to Taylor’s Falls — one of Minnesota’s best-kept summer secrets.
We cover everything from hiking Interstate State Park to wandering the mind-bending Franconia Sculpture Park, putting way too seriously at mini golf, eating at a drive-in literally called The Drive In, and even debating the ethics (and weird joy) of deer petting zoos.
We’re also joined by A-Man for Boomtimes, get into some actually good new TV shows, settle the score on Top 5 MCs vs. Desert Island Catalogues, and wander off-topic more times than we care to count.

This week, we spin a tall (and mostly true) tale about one of Minneapolis’ quirkiest and most beloved neighborhoods: Prospect Park—a place born from a whispering hill, a lost organist, and a water tower with a taste for the stars. It’s the kind of story that feels like a dream and smells faintly of river fog and optimism. Think Vonnegut, but with more zoning questions.
We explore how Prospect Park came to be (and nearly floated away), why its streets curl like old-timey mustaches, and what it means to build a neighborhood on eccentricity, hope, and light rail proximity.
Oh—and because we’re professionals—we conduct a hard-hitting sandwich showdown between two Twin Cities icons: 🥖 Lu’s legendary Banh Mi vs 🐖 The Iron Ranger’s molten hot Porchetta. One is crispy, punchy, and herb-forward. The other is a meaty fever dream. Only one can reign supreme.
Come for the history, stay for the sandwiches, and maybe you’ll hear the faint echo of an organ on Tower Hill… 🔔 Like, subscribe, and tell your neighbor who still calls it “Southeast” to tune in.

This week on This Must Be The Place, we dig into all things Whittier — the Minneapolis neighborhood that somehow manages to be both the birthplace of the city’s arts scene and the epicenter of mysterious acronyms. MIA, MCAD, CTC... we cover the ones you’ve heard of and make up a few more just for fun.
We also confront an uncomfortable historical truth: pretty much every revered institution from the 19th and 20th century has a sleazy white guy somewhere in the background. Neat! Andrew pitches alternative names for the Juicy Lucy while attempting to bridge the gender gap in American bar food.
Trivia is played, boom times are analyzed, and Casey tells the story of how he nearly lost his nieces and nephews in a shark attack,, and more.
Join us — for art, burgers, light trauma, and a bit of Whittier history.
